Lee Broom for Westfield

In June 2010, Westfield Stratford City London, joined forces with a cultural panel headed by leading retail marketing consultant Mary Portas, to launch its Studio East initiative.

The project’s vision was to incorporate East London’s creative spirit into the fabric of Westfield Stratford City London.  The eminent panel including Tom Dixon, Michelle Ogundehin and Tracey Emin, chose Lee Broom to create lighting installations for the Westfield which opened its doors in September 2011. For his commission, Broom developed and designed an original lighting concept: a dazzling array of fairground light bulbs surrounding a polished lacquered brass ring which together create a stunning halo of light.

The lights will bring an edgy East London feel to the space while retaining a luxurious aesthetic, in keeping with the premium experience of Westfield Stratford City London.

Exclusively created for the shopping complex, Broom wanted to create a lighting installation that mirrored the space. The eighteen lights will hang in arrangements of three, across six of the development’s entrance lobbies.
